It's almost Clara's birthday, so we decided to have a get-away birthday weekend. We took the kids up to Park City, and we stayed in a hotel for the first time with them. Park City isn't necessarily geared towards entertaining younger children, but we found a few things to do. First up was the alpine slide. Luke is truly a scardey cat. I wasn't sure if Luke would be up for the ride. We made sure to show the kids the slide before buying our tickets. We watched people come down the mountain. We asked Luke if he wanted to do it, and always replied "YES" So we bought our tickets!
We had to ride the ski lift up to the top of the mountain. It was about
a 15 minute ride up. Luke sat there the whole time peacefully. I
thought for sure he would chicken out, but it was Gilbert who was more
scared of the heights! Clara was ready to jump out of the ski lift.
She didn't quite realize that we weren't strapped in and safe, she we
had to hold on to her!
Then we made it to the top. We rode on two tracks right next to each other. One of their biggest rules is no racing, but since their tracks are right next to each other, its hard not to! Once the attendant gave us the green light we were off. Luke grabbed a hold of the brake and pressed it forward, giving us full speed ahead. I was shocked at how fast we were going, and even more shocked that Luke wasn't scared! Once Gilbert and Clara caught up to us, Luke kept trying to go faster and faster. This was a race and he was going to win!
When we got to the bottom, Luke jumped off and immediately wanted to go again! It was quite the process to go down the first time, so there wasn't going to be a repeat anytime soon. I'm glad the kids like sliding down the mountain so well!
We also found a jungle gym to play at for several hours, and we walked around down town main street. The best part for the kids was the hotel. They loved jumping on the beds back and forth. Luke was doing front flips all night. We swam in the swimming pool for hours and the kids got to jump in the hot tub for the first time. The local pool forbids kids in the hot tub, so they've never been in a hot tub before. They thought that was pretty cool. They jumped into the pool while we caught them. They didn't get enough swimming that we had to wake up and get some more swimming in before we left the next morning. It was a fun weekend to celebrate a little girls birthday. More celebrations to come!
