Happy First Birthday LUKE!

Luke turned 1 last Friday!
I can't believe it.
This last year has flown by WAY TOO FAST!

We decided to throw a Circus party for Luke.
My parents had the perfect venue for this event. Since they live on a farm, they had a large shed available. We decided to throw this party for Luke in Idaho so more of his family could attend.

This was the first cake I attempted to make.
Don't worry, it fell over by morning, so this is the picture taken right after putting it together.
It's the thought that counts right?
It's supposed to be a Ferris wheel in case you can't tell.

These are my second attempt for a cake.
These are supposed to look like little popcorn tubs,
but really they are delicious cupcakes with marshmallows on top.

So that is why I bought a back-up cake that was absolutely delicious.
It was the first picture in this post.
It was a delicious carrot cake with the best cream cheese frosting ever!

We had a series of games set up with prizes for each child.
This was one of our games, we did a balloon dart throw, with real darts!
Real darts are hard to find these days!

This game was a ping pong ball toss.
You had to toss a ping pong ball and get it to land inside the jar.
This was by far the toughest game.

This game was a rubber band gun target.
This was a favorite.
The object of this game was to shoot off one of the ping pong balls,
using the rubber band gun!
It was fun, even the littlest kids got this one down.

This one was your classic bean bag toss.
Always a favorite.

Another target game:
This was was with a dart gun, and we used Plexiglas as the target.
This one was lots of fun because the darts came out so fast,
and they suctioned well to the Plexiglas.

This was also another classic came.
All you had to do was throw a bean bag to knock over the cans.
This could prove a little tricky if you didn't have great aim.

This picture is a little dark, but this is the view of the entire set-up.
We tried to make our of little carnival ambiance.

This was the show stealer:
THE TRACTOR RIDE!

Gilbert got a 30 second instruction on how to drive this tractor.
Then we loaded everyone up and went for a ride around the farm.

Luke really enjoyed himself.
Right after the party, he was completely wasted and took a long nap.
We also took golf cart rides around the farm.
Luke always loves those :)

Luke loved walking around playing with the straw and the rocks.
When we were done, he needed a bath right away.
He was packing a couple hand fulls of straw in his clothes when I got him inside.
I even found straw in his diaper? How does he do that with a onsie on?

This was the whole gang!

Pics of the infamous "hay ride"
Of which some of us may never forget, because we almost got stuck going up the sand hill.

This is Gilbert thinking he can drive this tractor.
All in all, is was one for the memory books.
I know Luke won't remember it, but he will be able to look back on his scrap book and think that he has the coolest parents ever for throwing him such a cool party!

  1. What a fun first birthday! You are an awesome mama! I love the ferris wheel cake, even if it did fall before morning (it is all for a pic anyway, right) and the cupcakes turned out awesome! I am also planning a carnival party for my girls in January, I'm going to have to borrow some of your ideas. I want to see some pics of Luke eating cake...did you let him dig in? Can't believe he is 1...time goes too fast.
